Damaged Helicopter Gets Lift Down From Hospital Roof
CINCINNATI -- A medical helicopter damaged during a hard landing on New Year's Day got a lift home Friday.
A 550 Ton Hydraulic Truck Crane provided by AmQuip Crane Rental LLC was used to pull the damaged Patroleum Helicopters chopper off the roof of University Hospital just after noon.
The helicopter was damaged when a strong wind gust caused it to land hard just off the helipad, damaging the landing skids and tangling it in the security fence.
The company considered using another helicopter to remove it, but decided to use the crane instead.
Just before 12:30 p.m., the crane lifted the yellow helicopter off the roof, paused briefly as it was steadied and turned by handlers using ropes on the ground, then lowered to the street.
A few dozen spectators were standing by to watch and photograph the move.
