Work continues at Ground Zero
Pictured is one of two Liebherr LR 1280 crawler cranes belonging to US rental giant AmQuip Corporation at work on the ongoing clear up operation at Ground Zero in the US. Both of AmQuip's cranes are working for Tully Construction, one of the four main contractors on the project, each of which is handling its own designated area. One of the LR 1280s had to be rushed through customs to make it to the job site, while the other was removed from a current job (with the permission of the customers).
The LR 1280 is an uprated version of Liebherr's LR 1250 and has been given a rating of 300USt(272t).OneoftheLR 1280 units is working with 274 ft (83.5 m) of main boom and the other with 315 ft (96 m) of boom.
The first unit was operational on the site of the collapsed World Trade Center towers just two days after the terrorist attacks of September 11. AmQuip's presiĀdent and CEO, Joe Wesley, received two plaques of appreciĀation from the state of New York, one presented to AmQuip, the other to Liebherr.
